The NASELS Prize for Literature, formerly known as the Ayo Kehinde Prize for Literature, is an annual prize that celebrates undergraduate writers in the department. This year, it will be awarded in two categories: fiction and creative non-fiction (essay) which will be judged by a total of five judges. We will also be opening the prize up to our colleagues in the English Education department. Below are the rules and guidelines of submission. Please read carefully and ensure that you follow them closely, so as to avoid disqualification. We look forward to receiving your submissions!
RULES:
- Submissions are open from November 11, 2019.
- Submissions are open only to members of NASELS UI and English Education department.
- The prize will be awarded in two categories: fiction and creative non-fiction. An entrant can only submit in one category. Submission in both categories will earn you a disqualification.
- The maximum length of submissions in both categories is 2000 words. Works that exceed this word limit will be disqualified.
- Deadline for submission is 11:59pm, December 15, 2019. Submissions made after the deadline will be ignored.
- Please check that your work is well-edited.
GUIDELINES:
- Send your work as an attachment in word document format to np4literature@gmail.com
- Save the document with the title of your submission and nothing else.
- The body of your email should contain your full name, level, submission title and word count, phone number, and a short bio written in third person. Do not include any of these details in the word document you have attached, as each submission will be judged anonymously.
- The subject of your email should read: ‘NASELS PRIZE FOR LITERATURE 2019 FICTION SUBMISSION’ or ‘NASELS PRIZE FOR LITERATURE 2019 NON-FICTION SUBMISSION’, depending on the genre you are submitting.
- All entries must be the original work of the contestants.
- Please use double-spacing, Times New Roman and size 12 font.
NOTE THAT:
- There is no submission fee required.
- The entries will be judged based on their artistic quality and creativity.
- After a close deliberation by our judges, a shortlist will be released from which the winners will be chosen.
- The entries of the shortlisted writers will be published on our blog for publicity purposes.
- The judges’ decision is final and under no circumstances will they enter into any correspondence with entrants regarding their decisions.
- The copyright of each submission remains with its owner.
- Entrants are not allowed to submit by proxy as it would lead to disqualification.
- Shortlisted writers may be required to participate in certain events for publicity purposes.
